Heel Fracture

A heel fracture is a fracture of the Calcaneus. It is not easy to fracture you heel. This fracture often results from a fall from a height such as a fall off a ladder, and landing on one or both heels. The force that causes this type of injury may also damage the hip, pelvis and/or spine.

Your doctor may apply a splint until the swelling goes down, which can take one to three weeks. Then the doctor may give you a removable splint and prescribe some exercises to maintain flexibility and movement.

If the pieces of broken bone have been pushed out of place by the force of the injury, you may need surgery.
