Neck stress fracture definition
A neck stress fracture happens in the cervical vertebrae. Fractures in this area are always serious.
Most fractures to the neck or cervical vertebrae are a result of trauma and not stress fractures. But stress fractures can happen in this area when muscles become fatigued and are unable to absorb added shock. Eventually, the fatigued muscle transfers the overload of stress to the bone causing a tiny crack called a stress fracture.
Stress fractures can also result from non impact trauma such as during motor vehicle accidents when the head is violently jerked either backwards or forwards or when a person is shaken severely. |
